Five Hawaii airports top on-time list

Hawaii's five largest airports had the nation's best on-time arrival and departure percentages in December.

Hilo's airport on the Big Island ranked first out of 285 airports nationwide, with 93.3 percent of all flights arriving on time and 94.7 percent departing on time.

Lihue, Kauai's airport, was second with 92.5 percent of flights arriving on time and 93.9 percent departing on time.

The Kona airport on the Big Island placed third, followed by Honolulu International Airport and Kahului, Maui, Airport.

Winter weather caused delays at some Mainland airports that often record arrival and departure times comparable to Hawaii's airports.

The arrival and departure report was released this week by the U.S. Department of Transportation.
