Oahu Lane Closures

For the week of Saturday, November 21, to Friday, November 27.

--- H-1 FREEWAY ---

1) SCHOOL STREET ON-RAMP DAILY CLOSURES CONTINUE (Continuous)

Daily closures of the westbound H-1 Freeway School Street on-ramp from Monday, November 23, through Wednesday, November 25, from 4:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., daily, for repair of the retaining wall.

During ramp closure hours, westbound motorists wishing to access the H-1 Freeway are advised to use alternate on-ramps such as Vineyard Boulevard.

This is part of a $2.5 million state funded project to improve drainage facilities on the H-1 Freeway westbound School Street off-ramp and to extend and add new facing to the retaining wall at the westbound on-ramp. 

3)  MAKAKILO/KAPOLEI RAMP CLOSURE CONTINUES (Continuous)

24-hour, seven-day-a-week closure of the eastbound H-1 Freeway Makakilo,/Kapolei/Kalaeloa off-ramp (Exit 1B) to continue until the end of 2010 when work on Phase I of the new Kapolei Interchange Complex nears completion.

During the closure, motorists wishing to access the Kapolei area will be directed to use the previous Campbell Industrial Park/Barbers Point Harbor off-ramp (Exit 1A) and approach via Kapolei Parkway/Kamokila Boulevard (see attached diagram).

Phase I of the project consists of a new eastbound H-1 Freeway on- and off-ramp for the new Kapolei Interchange at Kamokila Boulevard and Wakea Street, as well as a new westbound freeway off-ramp near the Wet ‘n’ Wild Hawaii water park. The new westbound on-ramp at the Makakilo Interchange will also provide motorists with access to the H-1 Freeway from Makakilo Drive.

3)  VARIOUS CLOSURES, GUARDRAILS & SHOULDERS

A 24-hour right lane closure on the H-1 Freeway at the Arizona Memorial/Stadium off-ramp (Exit 15A) for guardrail and shoulder improvements on Monday, November 23, through Wednesday, November 25, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., daily. The ramp will remain open.

Electronic message boards will be placed at various points around the construction area. Motorists are advised to use caution while driving through the work areas and to allow for extra travel time. 

--- H-2 FREEWAY ---

1)  KIPAPA STREAM BRIDGE EXPANSION JOINT REPAIR (Weekend Work)

Daytime and nighttime closures on the H-2 Freeway between the Meheula Parkway Overpass and the Ka Uka Boulevard Overpass on Thursday, November 19, for repair of the bridge expansion joint at the following times and directions:

Daytime:                                    

  • 8:30 a.m., to 2:30 p.m., the right lane will be closed in the Wahiawa-bound direction.

Nighttime:

  • 6:30 p.m., Thursday night, November 19, to 3:00 a.m., Friday morning, November 20, the two leftmost lanes will be closed in the Honolulu-bound direction.

Motorists are advised to use caution while driving through the work area, allow for extra travel time, or use Kamehameha Highway as an alternate route.

 

 

--- H-3 FREEWAY ---

1)  KANEOHE-BOUND LANES CLOSED FOR TUNNEL MAINTENANCE (Weekend Work)

The H-3 Freeway will be closed in the Kaneohe-bound direction from the Halawa Interchange to the Halekou Interchange between 7:00 p.m., Saturday night, November 21, and 7:00 a.m., Sunday morning, November 22, for tunnel cleaning and maintenance work.

Closure information will be displayed on highway message signs to notify motorists throughout the week.  Kaneohe-bound motorists are advised to use alternate routes such as Likelike Highway and Pali Highway and to allow for extra travel time.

--- FARRINGTON HIGHWAY ---

1)  24-HOUR BRIDGE CLOSURE IN MAKAHA (Weekend Work)

24-hour, weekend traffic modification on Farrington Highway at Makaha Bridge 3A (the vicinity of Kili Drive) from 1:00 p.m. Friday afternoon, November 20, through 9:00 p.m. Sunday night, November 22. During these hours, traffic over the bridge will be reduced to a single lane and a contraflow will be in effect.

A routine bridge inspection revealed structural damage to the bridges and a temporary repair was made. As a safety precaution, traffic has been reduced to one lane in both directions until permanent repairs can be completed.

Electronic message boards have been placed around the construction area and flagmen will be on duty to direct traffic.

--- KAHEKILI HIGHWAY ---

1)  INTERSECTION WORK AT EAST, WEST HUI IWA STREETS

Alternating lane closures on Kahekili Highway in both directions at the East and West Hui Iwa Street intersections on Monday, November 23, through Wednesday, November 25, from 8:30 a.m., to 3:00 p.m., daily, for pavement striping work.

Special duty officers will be on site to direct traffic.

2)  POTHOLE PATCHING FROM KANEOHE TO KAHUKU

Roving single lane closures on Kamehameha Highway in both directions between Burroughs Road and Kaneohe Bay Drive, on Tuesday, November 24, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., for pothole patching.

--- KALANIANAOLE HIGHWAY ---

1)  ELECTRICAL WORK NEAR OLOMANA GOLF COURSE

Alternating lane closures on Kalanianaole Highway in both directions at the Old Kalanianaole Road intersection (near Olomana Golf Course) on Monday, November 23, through Wednesday, November 25, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., daily, for electrical work. There will also be a 24-hour closure of the shoulder lane in this vicinity.

2)  TREE TRIMMING NEAR WAILUPE BEACH PARK (Weekend Work)

Intermittent left lane closures on Kalanianaole Highway in the Waimanalo-bound direction between Waa Street and Kaai Street on Thursday, November 19, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for tree trimming operations in the median. 

--- KAMEHAMEHA HIGHWAY ---

1)  KAMEHAMEHA HIGHWAY IMPROVEMENTS CONTINUE
Various lane closures on Kamehameha Highway on Monday, November 23, through Wednesday, November 25, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., daily at the following locations:

  • Alternating single lane closures in both directions at the Kaahumanu Street intersection for traffic signal improvements.
  • Left lane closures in both directions from Acacia Road to Salt Lake Boulevard for work on the median fence.
  • Right lane closure in the Honolulu-bound direction from Radford Drive to Center Drive for electrical cable installations.

2)  POTHOLE PATCHNG WAIPAHU TO WAHIAWA (Weekend Work)

Rroving single lane closures on Kamehameha Highway in both directions Farrington Highway in Waipahu to Wilikina Drive in Wahiawa on Thursday, November 19, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., for pothole repairs.

3)  TREE TRIMMING WAIHOLE TO KUALOA (Weekend Work)

Roving right lane closures on Kamehameha Highway in the northbound direction between Waihole Valley Road and Kualoa Regional Park Road, on Monday, November 23, through Wednesday, November 25, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., daily, for roadside tree trimming.

4)  S. PUNALUU BRIDGE TREE RELOCATION CONTINUES

Intermittent single lane closures on Kamehameha Highway in both directions between the North Punaluu Stream Bridge (Mile Post 24.12) and the South Punaluu Stream Bridge (Mile Post 24.42) on Monday, November 23, through Wednesday, November 25, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., daily, for various tree and vegetation removal and relocation operations.

5)  POTHOLE PATCHING FROM KANEOHE TO KAHUKU

Roving single lane closures on Kamehameha Highway in both directions between Burroughs Road and Kaneohe Bay Drive, on Tuesday, November 24, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., for pothole patching.

--- PALI HIGHWAY ---

1) SIGN INVENTORY WORK KAILUA-BOUND

Roving right lane closures on Pali Highway in the Kailua-bound direction between South School Street and Kailua Road on Monday, November 23, through Tuesday, November 24, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., for sign inventory work.

--- KAMOKILA BOULEVARD ---

1)  ELECTRICAL WORK AT WAKEA STREET CONTINUES

Intermittent single lane closures in both directions on Kamokila Boulevard at the Wakea Street intersection on Monday, November 23, through Wednesday, November 25, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., daily, for installation of underground utilities.

-- FORT WEAVER ROAD ---

1)  WIDENING PROJECT CONTINUES WEEKDAYS, SATURDAY

Various lane closures on Fort Weaver Road between Old Fort Weaver Road and Geiger Road for installation of street lighting and for landscaping work on the following dates and locations:

            Monday, November 23, through Wednesday, November 25

·         7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., daily, left lane closures between Kolowaka Drive and Geiger Road in both directions.

·         7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., daily, left lane closures between Kolowaka Drive and Laulaunui Street in both directions.

The work is part of Phase II of a project to widen Fort Weaver Road from four lanes to six, adding an additional traffic lane in each direction from Aawa Drive to Geiger Road.  Phase II is expected to be completed in mid-2009 at a total cost of $59.85 million, 80% of which will paid for with federal funds and 20% by state funds. Phase I of the project was completed in August 2006 and widened Fort Weaver Road from four-to-six lanes from Farrington Highway to Aawa Drive. 

--- MOANALUA ROAD ---

1)  LANE STRIPING, RAIL INSTALLATIONS CONTINUE

Possible alternating single lane closures on Moanalua Road between the Moanalua Valley/Salt Lake off-ramp (Exit 2) and Ala Kapuna Street on Monday, November 23, through Wednesday, November 25, from 8:30 a.m., to 3:00 p.m., daily, for bridge rail installation work.

--- SCHOOL STREET---
