Oahu Lane Closures

For the week of Saturday, July 4, to Friday, July 10.

 --- H-1 FREEWAY ---

1)  BRIDGE REPAIR WORK IN AIEA

Right lane closures on the H-1 Freeway in the westbound direction at the Aiea off-ramp (Exit 13A) on Monday, July 6, through Friday, July 10, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., daily, for various bridge repair activities. During work hours, the ramp will remain open.

2)  RIGHT LANE CLOSURE MAKAKILO TO KUNIA

Lane closures on the H-1 Freeway between the Makakilo Interchange and the Kunia Interchange for construction activities on the North-South Road on the following dates and locations:

  • Monday, July 6, through Friday, July 10, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., daily, single lane closures in the westbound direction.
  • Wednesday, July 1, through Thursday, July 2, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., daily, right lane closures in the eastbound direction.

3)  VARIOUS CLOSURES, GUARDRAILS & SHOULDERS

Various single lane closures on the H-1 Freeway for guardrail and shoulder improvements on Monday, July 6, through Friday, July 10, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., daily, at the following times and locations:

Eastbound

·         Intermittent right and shoulder lane closures between the Lumiaina Street Overpass in Waipahu to the Kaimakani Street Overpass in Aiea from 8:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m., daily.

·         Alternating left and right shoulder lane closures on the northbound H-2 Freeway off-ramp (Exit 8B) from 8:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m., daily.

·         Right and shoulder lane closures between the Salt Lake Boulevard and the Hickam AFB/Nimitz Highway off-ramp (Exit 15) from 8:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m., daily. There will also be alternating shoulder lane closures on the off-ramp at this time.

Westbound

·         Intermittent right and shoulder lane closures between the Hickam Air force Base/Kamehameha Highway on-ramp and the Aiea/Pearlridge off-ramp (Exit 13A) from 9:30 a.m. to 2:15 p.m., daily.

4)  PEARL CITY VIADUCT REPAIRS CONTINUE (Night Work)

Three leftmost lanes will be closed on the H-1 Freeway in the eastbound direction from the Waiawa Overpass to the Waimalu Interchange on Monday night, July 6, through Friday morning, July 10, from 7:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m., nightly, for deck repairs.

Two lanes will remain open during construction hours but, due to the nature of the materials used, there will be periods in which the speed limit is lowered to 15 miles per hour.

At a cost of $7 million, Triton Marine Construction Corporation has been contracted to complete this first major overhaul of the Pearl City Viaduct since it was constructed in 1969. Repairs to the roadway have been initiated as a preventative measure against further deterioration of its structure that could result in hazardous conditions for commuters and area residents.

--- H-2  FREEWAY ---

1) RAIL LIGHTING REPLACEMENTS CONTINUE

Shoulder work on the H-2 Freeway in both directions between Wahiawa Town and Wheeler Army Airfield on Monday, July 6, through Friday, July 10, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., daily, for installation of electrical wiring.

--- H-3 FREEWAY ---

1)  GUARDRAIL WORK NEAR KANEOHE MARINE BASE

Intermittent right lane closures on the H-3 Freeway in the Kaneohe-bound direction between the H-3 Tunnel and Kaneohe Bay Drive on Monday, July 6, through Friday, July 10, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., daily, for guardrail repairs.

--- FARRINGTON HIGHWAY ---

1) EXCAVATION AND RECONSTRUCTION AT NORTH-SOUTH ROAD

Left lane closures on Farrington Highway in both directions at the Nanakuli Avenue intersection on Monday, July 6, through Friday, July 10, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., daily, for paving and excavation work.

--- KALANIANAOLE HIGHWAY ---

1)  PAVING & SHOULDER WORK NEAR HANAUMA BAY

Various construction activities or intermittent single lane closures on Kalanianaole Highway near Hanauma Bay Road on Monday, July 6, through Friday, July 10, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., daily, for shoulder excavation and paving work.

--- KAMEHAMEHA HIGHWAY ---

1)  TREE TRIMMING KAILUA TO KANEOHE

Intermittent right lane closures on Kamehameha Highway in the Kaneohe-bound direction between Kalanianaole Highway at Castle Junction and Mokulele Drive on Monday, July 6, through Friday July 10, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., daily, for roadside tree trimming

--- ALA MOANA BOULEVARD ---

1)  WAIKIKI LANE CLOSURES

Single lane closures on Ala Moana Boulevard in both directions between Kalakaua Avenue and Holomoana Street on Monday, July 6, through Friday, July 10, from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., daily, for landscaping and finishing work.

During these hours, there may also be one lane closed in both directions at Dewey Lane for traffic light sensor installations.

--- FORT WEAVER ROAD ---

1)  WIDENING PROJECT CONTINUES

Lane closures on Fort Weaver Road between Old Fort Weaver Road and Geiger Road in both directions for construction of utility and drainage crossings on Monday, July 6, through Friday, July 10, daily, at the following times and locations:

·         7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., between Kolowaka Drive and Geiger Road.

·         7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., between Kolowaka Drive and Laulaunui Street.

The work is part of Phase II of a project to widen Fort Weaver Road from four lanes to six, adding an additional traffic lane in each direction from Aawa Drive to Geiger Road.  Phase II is expected to be completed in mid-2009 at a total cost of $59.85 million, 80% of which will paid for with federal funds and 20% by state funds. Phase I of the project was completed in August 2006 and widened Fort Weaver Road from four-to-six lanes from Farrington Highway to Aawa Drive.
