6/23: The state Department of Transportation (DOT) marked the start of the Wailua Cane Haul Bridge Widening Project on Kaua`i's Kuhi`o Highway with a groundbreaking ceremony this morning with federal, state and county officials.

7/6: Governor Linda Lingle, U.S. Senator Daniel K. Inouye, state DOT officials, and representatives from Kapolei Property Development and Hawaiian Dredging Construction Company, Inc., today celebrated the groundbreaking of the first phase of the H-1 Freeway Kapolei Interchange Complex, which will construct connecting ramps to the Makakilo and Palailai Interchanges.

$3.1 Million In Federal Funds Secured For Kawaihae Harbor Improvements
4/24: The state DOT will be the beneficiary of $3.1 million in federal funds, through the Hawaii Port Infrastructure Expansion Program, for port improvements at Kawaihae Harbor. This infrastructure project will be the first of many to be conducted under partnership between the federal Maritime Administration and the state Harbors Division.

Commercial Drivers License Holders Warned Of Heightened Risk Of Identity Theft
4/7: The state DOT and the Attorney General are strongly encouraging approximately 1,892 individuals who hold a commercial drivers license (CDL) to take preventative measures to guard themselves against potential identify theft. The warning follows a March 18, 2009 incident, in which a laptop from the DOT’s Motor Vehicle Safety Office was reported missing.
Driver History Record Copies Now More Accessible To The Public

H-1 Lane Closures For Pearl City Viaduct Advanced Repairs
4/1: Road crews will begin deck replacement repair work beginning Monday, April 6, on the Pearl City Viaduct, H-1 Freeway eastbound. Work will be scheduled on Monday nights through Friday mornings from 7 p.m. to 4 a.m., nightly.

Honoapiilani Highway Widening Project Contract Award Moving Foward
The state Department of Transportation (DOT) will be awarding the contract for the Honoapiilani Widening Project, Lahainaluna Road to Aholo Road. A bid protest had been filed but a subsequent hearing was not requested, allowing the DOT to move forward with the contract award process. Bids from prospective contractors, ranging from $18,495,401, to $24,767,977, are now being reviewed and the contract award is pending.

New Highways Modernization Plan Website Online
More information on the proposed $4.2 billion dollar, six-year Highways Modernization Plan is now online. The statewide plan would implement critical highway projects and programs aimed at reducing traffic congestion, improving highway safety, maintaining roads, and saving motorists time and money.The Highways Modernization Plan focuses on 183 projects, including 161 projects in the four counties: 76 projects on O‘ahu, 36 projects for Maui County, 27 projects on the Big Island and 22 projects on Kaua‘i. In addition, there are 22 statewide projects.

7/16: The westbound H-1 Freeway School Street on-ramp will be closed continuously for approximately one month beginning at 9:30 p.m. on Sunday night, July 19, through 3:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon, August 15, for repair of an adjacent retaining wall.
