Driver History Record Copies Now More Accessible To The Public

04/01/09 - The state DOT announced today that Hawai‘i drivers can now attain copies of their driver history record by visiting or writing to the District Courts. A request form is also available online at: http://hawaii.gov/dot/highways/about/hwy-v/mvso.htm

The state Department of Transportation (DOT) announced today that Hawai‘i drivers can now attain copies of their driver history record by visiting or writing to the District Courts.  A request form is also available online at: http://hawaii.gov/dot/highways/about/hwy-v/mvso.htm

“This will make it a lot easier and more accessible for drivers to provide copies of their driver history record to employers of commercial drivers or insurance companies,” said Jiro Sumada, deputy director for DOT highways.  “Providing this service to the public was made possible through the collaborative efforts between the DOT, the County Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), the Honolulu Department of Information Technology, and the Hawai‘i State Judiciary,” he added.

The new Hawai‘i driver history record shows a driver’s license class, expiration date, traffic violations, and whether the driver’s license is suspended.  A copy of a driver history record can be obtained for $9.

This complete driver history satisfies the federal and state requirement that the employer of a commercial driver make an inquiry of the driver’s record within 30 days of hire and annually thereafter.

The driver history record is not a substitute for certified traffic abstracts which will continue to be available from the Traffic Violations Bureau of the District Courts.
