H-1 Freeway Airport Viaduct Westbound Three-Lane Closure On Sunday

HONOLULU — The state Department of Transportation advises Oahu motorists that the three rightmost lanes of the H-1 Freeway Airport Viaduct will be closed in the westbound direction from the Airport on-ramp to the Kamehameha Highway/Aloha Stadium/Arizona Memorial off-ramp (Exit 15A) on Sunday, May 18, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., for concrete pavement repair work.

All on-and-off-ramps will remain open during this time.  Single lane closures may also be implemented on Nimitz Highway below the viaduct as a safety precaution after
10:00 a.m.

The scheduled roadwork is part of a $9.1 million project to repair potholes along a nearly three-mile stretch of the H-1 Freeway Airport Viaduct (top deck) between Middle Street and Valkenburgh Street.  Crews will use a fast-forming concrete to fill in potholes.  To minimize vibrations along the viaduct while the concrete cures, the speed limit near the repair area will be reduced to 15 mph.  Special duty police officers will be on-site to enforce this speed limit.

Westbound motorists are advised to use caution while driving through the work area, to allow for extra travel time or to use alternate routes including the H-201 Moanalua Freeway or Nimitz Highway underneath the H-1 Airport Viaduct.  Roadwork is weather-permitting.
