H-1 Lane Closures For Pearl City Viaduct Advanced Repairs
4/1: Road crews will begin deck replacement repair work beginning Monday, April 6, on the Pearl City Viaduct, H-1 Freeway eastbound. Work will be scheduled on Monday nights through Friday mornings from 7 p.m. to 4 a.m., nightly.
HONOLULU — The state Department of Transportation (DOT) advises O‘ahu motorists that crews will begin deck replacement repair work beginning Monday, April 6, on the Pearl City Viaduct, H-1 Freeway eastbound.
“We’re taking a proactive approach by making these repairs before the road further deteriorates,” said Jiro Sumada, deputy director of the DOT Highways Division. “This is one of our heaviest traveled corridors and we will try to minimize the impacts this project has on drivers, as best we can” he added.
This is the first major repair to the viaduct since it was constructed in 1969.
Due to the extent of this project, work is expected to take six to eight months. Roadwork is weather-permitting. Three of five lanes will be affected during construction periods, from Lehua Avenue and extend to Kamehameha Highway (please see map below).
To minimize the impact to motorists, the construction schedule is as follows:
-
No roadwork on the weekends
-
Weekday nights (Monday through Thursday) construction is scheduled from 7p.m. to 4 a.m. Two lanes will remain open during construction.
During construction hours, there will be periods when the speed limit will be lowered to 15 miles per hour. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes such as Kamehameha Highway, or the H-201 Moanalua Freeway, or adjust their commute times. Motorists are also advised to use caution while driving through the work area and to allow for extra travel time.
Triton Marine Construction Corporation is contracted to complete the Pearl City Viaduct repairs at a cost of $7million.
To report complaints, please call the H-3 Tunnel Control Center (24-hours) at 485-6200.
