02/17/11 - Valet parking service at the Honolulu International Airport’s Interisland Terminal will be ending operations effective Monday, Feb. 28, due to declining public use. The service would routinely serve approximately 400 cars per day over three-day weekends in 2006, but usage rates have declined steadily since the completion of a new airport parking structure in Feb. 2009.
HONOLULU — Valet parking service at
the Honolulu
International Airport’s
Interisland Terminal will be ending operations effective Monday, February 28,
2011, due to declining public use.
The service, provided by Ampco System Parking, was launched in July
2006, to meet public demand for airport parking. Following the opening of a new, eight-story
parking structure between the Interisland and Overseas Terminals in February
2009, that added 1,800 new parking stalls for a total of 6,300 at the airport,
there are now fewer travelers using the valet service.
The valet service would routinely serve approximately 400 cars per
day over three-day weekends in 2006. It
is currently used by an average of eight to ten cars per day, making the
service no longer economically practical. The eight valet service employees are being
offered other positions within Ampco System Parking.
