H-1 Freeway School Street Ramp Repairs
24/7 H-1 FREEWAY SCHOOL STREET ON-RAMP CLOSURE
BEGINS SUNDAY NIGHT, JULY 19
The state Department of Transportation advises Oahu motorists that the westbound H-1 Freeway School Street on-ramp will be closed continuously for approximately one month from 9:30 p.m. Sunday night, July 19, through 5:00 a.m. Monday morning, August 17, for repair of an adjacent retaining wall.
During this time, westbound motorists wishing to access the H-1 Freeway are advised to use alternate on-ramps such as Vineyard Boulevard.
This is part of a $2.5 million state-funded project to improve drainage facilities on the H-1 Freeway westbound School Street off-ramp and to extend and add new facing to the retaining wall at the westbound on-ramp (see photos below).
Electronic message boards will be placed at various points around the construction areas. Motorists are advised to use caution while driving through the work area and to allow for extra travel time. Roadwork is weather-permitting.

REPAIRS
The ramp closure is necessary for workcrews to repair a retaining wall immediately adjacent to the on-ramp. As illustrated in the photos below, the wall is under stress from the weight of soil shifting in the landscaped area above the freeway. Over the next month, crews will stabilize the hillside and reconstruct the wall.
