Ethics Training for State Officials and Employees

ETHICS FOR STATE EMPLOYEES
This workshop covers the major provisions of the State Ethics Code that are applicable to all state employees. Hypothetical case studies are used to engage participants in discussions about ethics. Topics include conflicts of interests; gifts and the reporting of gifts; confidential information; misuse of government office and government resources; the award of state contracts to state officials and employees; and post-employment restrictions. The workshop also covers the role of the Hawaii State Ethics Commission in administering and enforcing the State Ethics Code.

ETHICS FOR STATE PROCUREMENT PERSONNEL
This workshop covers ethics issues that are especially relevant for employees who procure goods and services for the State. Topics include conflicts of interests; outside employment with vendors and contractors; gifts, including meals, trips, and special discounts from vendors and contractors; misuse of government office in dealing with vendors; requirements for the award of contracts to state officials or to businesses in which state officials have controlling interests; and ethics restrictions for former state employees who are employed by vendors or contractors doing business with the State.

ETHICS FOR STATE SUPERVISORS (NEW!)
State supervisors play an important role in maintaining a high awareness of ethics in the workplace. This new workshop covers ethics issues that are especially relevant for state supervisors and managers. Topics include supervising employees who have possible conflicts of interests with their state duties; office procedures and policies for gifts and the reporting of gifts; ethics issues that can arise in dealings between supervisors and subordinates, including the misuse of government office and government resources; and post-employment restrictions. The workshop will give supervisors tips on how to promote awareness of ethics and help employees comply with the State Ethics Code.
