State Awards $3.7M in Federal Stimulus Funds to Increase Energy Efficiency
This week, the Department of Labor and Industrial Relations (DLIR) in conjunction with the Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism (DBEDT), awarded over $3.7 million under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act-Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) to help make homes of low-income Hawai`i residents more energy efficient.
DLNR Observes National Trails Day with Guided Hike
On Saturday, June 6, in observance of American Hiking Society's National Trails Day, the Department of Land and Natural Resources will open two new trails on O`ahu, Kamananui Valley and Kulanaahane Trail, and sponsor a hike on Maui's Kahakapao Loop Trail.

Governor Details Plan to Close Budget Shortfall
Following the Council on Revenues' most recent reduced revenue forecast, Governor Lingle addressed the people of Hawai`i on television, radio and webcast to discuss her Administration's plan to close the immediate shortfall, as well as long-term steps to keep the state on a path to economic recovery.

Kapolei Middle School Celebrates 10 Years
Governor Lingle joined Kapolei Middle School students, parents, teachers and staff at a ceremony to commemorate the school's 10th anniversary, during which she praised the school as an example for facing challenges and moving forward.
Governor Focuses on Big Island, State Economy

DHHL Signs Lease Agreement with Safeway/Target
The Department of Hawaiian Home Lands (DHHL) signed a lease agreement with a Safeway/Target Stores partnership that will bring jobs, economic activity, and increased retail opportunities for Big Island residents as well as provide additional revenue for the development of affordable homes for native Hawaiians.
Governor Lingle Receives Spirit of the Warrior, Distinguished Civilian Awards
At the U.S. Army's 234th Birthday Ball, Lt. General Benjamin Mixon presented Governor Lingle with the 2009 Mana O Ke Koa "Spirit of the Warrior" Award from the soldiers of U.S. Army Pacific, as well as the Distinguished Civilian Service Award from the Secretary of the Army.
Freeway Service Patrol to Ease Traffic, Increase Safety
As part of the Lingle-Aiona Administration's ongoing efforts to keep Hawai`i motorists on the move, Governor Lingle announced the start of a two-year Freeway Service Patrol. The program, proven to save motorists time and money in other urban areas of the country, provides free emergency roadside service to motorists to keep freeways clear.
Governor Lingle Details Furlough Plan
Governor Lingle announced details of the Administration's plan to furlough all state employees in the Executive Branch to help close the unprecedented $2.7 billion revenue shortfall projected between now and June 30, 2011. The furlough plan represents the first time labor costs are being impacted to address the state's budget gap.

100th Infantry Battalion Veterans Celebrate 67 Years
Governor Lingle joined members of the 100th Infantry Battalion Veterans Club at a ceremony to celebrate their 67th anniversary as an organization and recognize executive board members. This year, the club installed an executive board that consists solely of descendants of veterans of the 100th for the first time in the organization's history.
State Dedicates Pohoiki Boat Launch Ramp
As part of the Lingle-Aiona Administration's ongoing efforts to upgrade small boat harbors statewide, the state dedicated the new Pohoiki concrete boat launch ramp, accessible ramp and loading dock on the Big Island. The old Pohoiki boat ramp and loading dock had fallen into disrepair due to decades of neglect.

West O`ahu Investment: New Middle School, H-1 Interchange
With a focus on building a better future for the people of Hawai`i, Governor Lingle attended groundbreaking ceremonies in West O`ahu this week to mark the start of construction for a new middle school in `Ewa Makai as well as the H-1 Freeway, Kapolei Interchange Complex, Phase 1.
Governor Submits Potential Veto List
Governor Lingle submitted to the State Legislature a list of 65 bills that she is considering for potential vetoes. The bills are being considered for potential veto due to various factors including significant negative impacts on the public, legal or constitutional concerns, potential unintended consequences, and technical flaws in the legislation.

Governor to Continue Negotiations for Labor Savings, Seeks Additional Cuts from Departments
Governor Lingle said that she and her cabinet will be working late into the night and through the weekend to plan the next steps following Friday's court ruling on her furlough plan.
