GOVERNOR LINGLE RELEASES $9 MILLION TO REPLACE SCHOOL STREET H-1 ON-RAMP RETAINING WALL
For Immediate Release: February 23, 2009
HONOLULU – Governor Linda Lingle has released $8,999,000 in design and construction funds to replace the retaining wall on the School Street on-ramp to H-1 Freeway and to stabilize the slope above the retaining wall. This project is part of the $1.8 billion public infrastructure construction plan unveiled by Governor Lingle in December 2008 to stimulate the economy and create jobs. Progress of the more than 1,500 projects included in the plan can be tracked on the Governor’s website at www.hawaii.gov/cip. The existing 10-foot high retaining wall adjacent to the H-1 Freeway supports a 15-foot high sloping embankment, with School Street at the top of the slope. There are cracks in the School Street on-ramp pavement and separation of the concrete curbing the existing wall. The retaining wall is also cracked in some locations and appears to be leaning toward the freeway. This project will reconstruct the retaining wall and provide necessary measures to stabilize the slope above the retaining wall. Design is scheduled to begin in March 2009 and be completed in May 2009. Construction is scheduled to begin in August 2009 and be completed in July 2010. #### Brennon Morioka Lenny Klompus Russell Pang Document Actions |
