GOVERNOR'S MAUI COMMUNITY ADVISORY COUNCIL TO ADDRESS RECREATIONAL RENAISSANCE PLAN

This month’s meeting will feature Jerry Edlao, Maui’s representative on the Board of Land and Natural Resources, who will discuss the Department of Land and Natural Resources’ proposed Recreational Renaissance plan to restore and reinvigorate Hawai‘i’s state parks, trails, small boat harbors, forest reserves and other recreational facilities. The $240 million five-year plan includes 32 projects on Maui totaling an estimated $35.7 million. The Council will also review the 2008-2009 priority list submitted to the Governor and will discuss the Governor’s response. In addition, Chair Madge Schaefer will provide an update on the Hana Home Dialysis Operation and George Kaya, the Governor’s Maui Liaison, will update the Council on the Ma‘alaea Small Boat Harbor improvement project. Governor Linda Lingle created community advisory councils to give the neighbor islands a stronger voice in state government. The Maui Community Advisory Council holds monthly public meetings to seek community input and advise the Governor of important issues on Maui and recommendations for state boards and commissions.
