May 20-Neighbor Island Council of Advisors

Click here to listen to this address

Aloha!

For the past two years, neighbor island advisory committees have kept my Administration updated on key issues of importance on their islands.

I established these committees when I first took office to give the neighbor islands a stronger voice in state government.  They have been effective in identifying spending priorities, and proposing ways to improve state government and enhance the quality of life for residents in the communities.

To build on this success, I have established new, expanded advisory councils for Kauai, Maui and East and West Hawaii, Molokai and Lanai.  These councils will provide my Administration with issues and goals that state government should address.  They will also recommend potential nominees from the neighbor islands to serve on 143 state boards and commissions.

I urge you to give public service a chance. Please submit your resume to the liaison office on your island by Friday, May 27.  Moloka`i and Lana`i residents should send resumes to my office in Honolulu.  For additional information, visit my Web site at www.hawaii.gov, or call 586-0034.

Mahalo.

This is Governor Linda Lingle.
