October 2005 - Race for the Cure

Click here to listen to this address.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

This is an important opportunity to educate women and men about early breast cancer detection, diagnosis and treatment.

I know first hand that if detected early, breast cancer is curable.

Monthly breast self-exams and annual mammography screening for women over 40 can significantly improve a woman’s chance of surviving breast cancer.

Please join me along with breast cancer survivors and Hawai`i residents on Sunday, October 23rd for the 11th Annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.  This race/walk around Kapi`olani Park will help raise funds to find a cure for breast cancer and save lives.
