April 3, 2008 - Rapid Response Team Assists Aloha Airlines Employees

Click here to listen to this address, presented this week by Lt. Governor James R. "Duke" Aiona, Jr.

"All of us are deeply disappointed that Aloha Airlines made the decision to cease operations of their inter-island and transpacific passenger flights.  We are especially concerned about the welfare of the 1,900 employees and their families.

The state has activated our multi-agency Rapid Response Team to assist the affected employees statewide by surveying workers to evaluate their job skills and determine what type of job placement assistance might be needed.

The Department of Labor is meeting with Aloha employees on O`ahu, Maui, Kaua`i and the Big Island to discuss the procedures to obtain unemployment and medical benefits.

As is always true for our state, the people of Hawai`i are pulling together during this very difficult time.

If you or your family are affected, please attend an informational meeting. Call 586-8844 or visit www.hawaii.gov/labor/aloha for assistance."
