March 13, 2008 - Legislative Session Update

"With the 2008 legislative session half over, I remain optimistic about the progress being made on important initiatives like energy independence, affordable housing and the preservation of what makes Hawai`i special.

I thank the Legislature for working collaboratively with my Administration to keep these critical bills moving forward.

I am hopeful that legislators will also work with me to help residents cope with the high cost of living by passing our targeted tax relief measures.

With such important issues facing our state, it is surprising to see certain lawmakers spend so much time on unwarranted investigations and legislation that would erode powers of the executive branch.  Many of these proposals would compromise the integral system of checks and balances of our government.

I urge you to become more involved in the legislative process.  Visit my website at www.hawaii.gov/gov."
