May 8, 2008 - Lackluster Legislature
Click here to listen to this address.
"As a wrap-up to the 2008 Legislative session, I want to commend the legislature for passing the Turtle Bay bill and the Statewide Harbors Modernization Plan. Lawmakers failed to make significant progress on other critical issues. Instead of addressing affordable housing, education, tax relief and medical malpractice reform, they remained focused on sustaining the status quo.
Most disappointing was the Legislature's failure to approve the ceded lands settlement, and not allow the Bureau of Conveyances to file transactions online. Neighbor island residents will be especially adversely affected.
Each of the 294 bills passed will now undergo an extensive review process. We urge you to call, email or fax my office to make your voices heard.
I have until July 8 to sign, veto or let a bill become law without my signature.
