Aloha.

As our entire community works to address the day-to-day challenges of the economic downturn, we must not lose sight of those who are in the greatest need.

Everyone in Hawai`i, from private citizens to small businesses and major companies, can make a difference in helping those around us.

United Way organizations statewide are fundraising so they can continue supporting important nonprofits that make our community so special. Foodbanks on all islands are also in need of donations to ensure Hawai`i's families have food on the table.

Hawai`i has always been recognized for our charitable heart. It is important that while we are tightening our own belts, we remember how just one dollar or one canned good can make a difference in the life of someone else. Whether through financial donations, or lending just a few hours of volunteer time, you can help to provide hope for all the people of Hawai`i.

Mahalo. This is Governor Linda Lingle.
