Infrastructure Improvements
Modernizing Hawai‘i’s infrastructure, including its highways, airports, harbors, schools and other public facilities, has the dual benefit of creating jobs in construction and related industries, as well as positioning Hawai‘i to be ready for when the economy improves with a strong and efficient infrastructure that can support growth.
Currently, the Lingle-Aiona Administration is spearheading a capital improvement project (CIP) initiative, whose goal is to start more than 1,500 construction projects within the next 18 months. In addition, we continue to move forward with our multi-year Airports and Harbors Modernization Plans and recently unveiled a Highway Modernization Plan that will save lives, time and money.
Federal funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act will help Hawai‘i start additional critical infrastructure projects and get more workers back on the job. County projects are being coordinated in collaboration with Governor Lingle and the state Department of Transportation, which is serving as the lead on transportation projects statewide that will receive federal stimulus funds.
These stimulus projects will go out for advertisement following the same state procurement guidelines. The projects will be posted for advertisement on our state’s procurement notice system website at: www.hawaii.gov/bidapps.
