"Mikey" Forbes is Granted Wish to Meet Governor LingleGovernor Lingle welcomed 12-year-old Michael "Mikey" Forbes to the Hawai`i State Capitol. Forbes, who has severe hemophilia, and his family, who were flown to Hawai`i by the Make-a-Wish Foundation. Forbes' wish was to visit Hawai`i, meet the Governor, discuss Hawai`i's medical system and its coverage of children and the uninsured, and learn what it's like to live here. "What's different about this medical system than every other state?" asked Forbes, who would like to pursue a career in medicine. The Governor explained that Hawai`i is unique because every business is required to provide medical insurance to employees who work 20 hours or more per week. Forbes' condition has not stopped him from being on the Junior Olympic swim team. He competes in the 50- and 100-meter butterfly stroke, as well as the 50-, 100- and 200-meter freestyle competition.
