Graduates of Parenting Program Celebrate Success
The Department of Public Safety hosted a special ceremony this week for the first graduating class of the E Ho`opili Hou parenting program. The goal of this program is to reconnect parents with their keiki, and also support the caregivers of the children whose fathers are incarcerated.
The Hawai`i Community Correctional Center (HCCC) inmates participated in the 14-week program, which included classes in: Supporting Parents As First Teachers (SPAFT), Keiki play groups, caregivers support group, Read Aloud (literacy program), and Nurturing Fathers. The classes were facilitated by community agencies such as: Keiki O Ka Aina, The Institute for Family Enrichment, Kamehameha Schools, PATCH, and Queen Liliuokalani Children's Center.
