Governor Linda Lingle
Personal Message:
Aloha!
Thank you for visiting my website.
Technology is an exceptional tool for providing important information and connecting you to your state government. I encourage you to fully explore the website to learn about the initiatives and programs of my Administration, including those of our 16 state departments. I also encourage you to utilize our multimedia tools, which offer video of news conferences, audio of radio shows and photo galleries of public events.
We are at a pivotal point in our state’s history, and to create a better Hawai‘i, we must act now. My Administration is hard at work every day to improve the standard of living for Hawai`i residents while protecting our natural and cultural resources.
The future is everyone’s responsibility.
To move our state forward, we should never forget those bedrock principles of our proud heritage – caring for each other, celebrating our diversity and protecting the land and sea around us.
We are living in an exciting and challenging time in our state’s history. Hawai‘i must capitalize on the opportunities of the present, including the global wave of innovation. Last year, our Administration launched the Hawai‘i Innovation Initiative to bolster science, technology, and engineering in education, our workforce and the economy.
But innovation must become the focus in all fields, both within government and the private sector. Innovation means using infinite human creativity to devise new approaches, new processes and new solutions to make things easier, faster and more efficient.
Our Administration’s 2008 legislative goals featured innovation across all sectors, including generating renewable energy, offering targeted and meaningful tax relief, increasing food security, expanding quality health care, creating more affordable housing, enhancing highway safety, and bolstering public safety and disaster preparedness. When it comes to moving Hawai‘i forward on a path of innovative progress, your state government is leading by example.
To reach our fullest potential and achieve the greatest success, however, it will take more than just government. Every citizen has a critical role to play. By each of us finding our own unique way to contribute and make a difference for our beloved state, let is be said by future generations as it is said today, “There’s no place on Earth like these islands.”
Mahalo!
