Mahalo for Your Service - Coast Guard
Governor Lingle attended the change of command ceremony for the U.S. Coast Guard's Fourteenth District, during which Rear Admiral Manson K. Brown, commander of Maintenance Logistics Command Pacific, assumed the responsibilities from Rear Admiral Sally Brice-O'Hara, who will become assistant commandant for operations in Washington, D.C.
The Governor shared her appreciation for Rear Admiral Brice-O'Hara's strong leadership, as well as her initiative to show the people of Hawai`i a clear and unified command under times of pressure and great stress.
Governor Lingle also welcomed Rear Admiral Brown and his family back to Hawai`i. The Governor acknowledged Admiral Brown's strong background in engineering and shared her hopes that he, and Coast Guard District Fourteen, would partner with the State of Hawai`i to create more opportunities for students and civilians in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Admiral Brown previously served as commander of Coast Guard Sector Honolulu from May 2005 to June 2006.
The Fourteenth District's Search and Rescue area of responsibility covers nearly 12.2 million square miles of the Central Pacific Ocean.
