Supporting Families of Coast Guard '6505'

Members of Hawai`i's military race near Diamond Head during the Malama Ka Mea Ho`Opakele Canoe Regatta to raise funds for the family members of a Coast Guard rescue helicopter crew that was lost in September.

The four-member helicopter air crew perished off the coast of O`ahu when their HH-65 Dolphin crashed during a training flight.

Crew members included pilot Cmdr. Thomas Nelson, co-pilot Lt. Cmdr. Andrew Wischmeier, rescue swimmer Petty Officer 1st Class David Skimin, and flight mechanic Petty Officer 2nd Class Joshua Nichols, all of whom were members of the United States Coast Guard's District 14 in Honolulu.
