Details Furlough Plan

Governor Lingle announced details of the Administration's plan to furlough all state employees in the Executive Branch to help close the unprecedented $2.7 billion revenue shortfall projected between now and June 30, 2011. "This is not something we want to do, but something we have to do to balance the state budget. We appreciate the public's understanding and patience as our state employees adjust to the new schedules," the Governor said.

The Department of Hawaiian Home Lands signed a lease agreement with a Safeway/ Target Stores partnership that will bring jobs, economic activity, and increased retail opportunities for Big Island residents as well as provide additional revenue for the development of affordable homes for native Hawaiians.

Governor Lingle Honored
By U.S. Army Pacific 

At the U.S. Army's 234th Birthday Ball, Lt. General Benjamin Mixon presented Governor Lingle with the 2009 Mana O Ke Koa "Spirit of the Warrior" Award from the soldiers of U.S. Army Pacific, as well as the Distinguished Civilian Service Award from the Secretary of the Army.

Kapolei Middle School Celebrates 10 Years

Governor Lingle joined Kapolei Middle School students, parents, teachers and staff at a ceremony to commemorate the school's 10th anniversary, during which she praised the school as an example for facing challenges and moving forward. When the school opened in 1999, it had 45 teachers serving 900 students.

June 26, Governor Lingle will deliver keynote remarks at the Maui Chamber of Commerce annual meeting.  The Governor will update chamber members on the Administration's efforts to address the projected budget shortfall, while focusing on the long-term transformation of Hawai`i's economy.
