Governor Addresses Hawai`i Travel Industry Leaders

Speaking at a critical time for Hawai`i's visitor industry and economy, Governor Lingle delivered keynote remarks at the 12th annual Travel Weekly Hawai`i Leadership Forum. The Governor highlighted the strengths of Hawai`i's visitor industry, as well as challenges and opportunities for growth in this global economic climate.

Graduates of Parenting Program Celebrate Success

The Department of Public Safety hosted a ceremony this week for the first graduating class of the E Ho`opili Hou parenting program. The goal of this program is to reconnect parents with their keiki, and also support the caregivers of the children whose fathers are incarcerated.

USS Hawai`i Honored
for Fighting Drugs

The USS Hawai`i recently became the second naval submarine to receive the U.S. Coast Guard's Meritorious Unit Commendation. The submarine departed Groton, Connecticut this week, and will make Pearl Harbor its home later this summer.

Governor Hosts International Journalists at State Capitol

Governor Lingle welcomed journalists to Hawai`i as part of the Jefferson Fellowship Program. The program provides U.S. and Asia-Pacific journalists with an opportunity to broaden their understanding of Asia-Pacific issues and hold dialogues at the East-West Center.

 Investing in Infrastructure

As part of the $1.8 billion public infrastructure construction plan to stimulate the economy and create jobs, Governor Lingle released $4.6 million this week to invest in highway improvements on Kaua`i, security upgrades at O`ahu harbors and improvements at Manuka State Wayside Park on the Big Island.
