New Program to Lower Costs,
Decrease Dependence on Oil

Governor Lingle and State Comptroller Russ Saito announced a new project that focuses on energy efficiency improvements to 10 State office buildings within the State Capital District, including the State Capitol, that comprise over 1.3 million square feet of building space.

$1.5 Million to Aid
Persons with Disabilities

Department of Human Services (DHS) Director Lillian Koller announced this week that the State of Hawai`i has applied for and obtained an additional $1.5 million in federal funding to help persons with disabilities maximize their employability and independence.

Hawai`i National Guard Opens Recruiting Office

Governor Lingle and State Adjutant General Maj. Gen. Robert Lee recently celebrated the opening of the first "joint" storefront recruiting office. Housing both the Army and Air National Guard, recruiters will now be able to work as a team in a one-stop-shop.

Celebrating the Contributions of Hawai`i's Orchid Growers

Governor Lingle attended the Honolulu Orchid Society's Orchid Plant and Flower Show, where she presented the "Best in Show" award to Foster Botanical Gardens. The Governor toured the show and noted the important role of orchid growers in Hawai`i.

October 13, Governor Lingle will hold a news conference to update the public on the progress of the Capital Improvement Project plan the Administration unveiled last December to accelerate public construction projects in order to create jobs and stimulate the economy.
