St. Regis Princeville
Provides Jobs, Economic
Boost for Kaua`i

Governor Lingle joined Kaua`i residents and community leaders at a ceremony to celebrate the grand opening of the new St. Regis Princeville Resort on the north shore of Kaua`i. The resort provides jobs for 290 residents; 96 percent of whom are returning employees who worked at the former Princeville Resort.

Building on the Lingle-Aiona Administration's efforts to acknowledge and encourage innovation across all sectors in Hawai`i, Governor Lingle recognized six recipients of the Governor's Innovation Awards for their ingenuity and commitment to developing creative ways for Hawai`i to meet the challenges of the 21st century. Through their innovative ideas, the recipients have contributed to a stronger economic future for the state.

Hawai`i National Guard Assisting With Relief Efforts in American Samoa

Following an earthquake and tsunami that devastated American Samoa and Samoa on Tuesday, the Hawai`i National Guard took immediate action to assist in the emergency relief effort. A total of four C-17 aircraft left Hawai`i Wednesday and Thursday for American Samoa. They were flown by aircrews from the 154th Wing of the Hawai`i Air National Guard and 15th Airlift Wing, an active duty unit based at Hickam Air Force Base.

State Completes H-1 Pearl City Viaduct Repair Project

The state Department of Transportation (DOT) has completed the advanced deck replacement project on the H-1 Freeway Pearl City Viaduct. "We want to thank drivers for their continued patience over the past six months as we repaired thousands of square feet of roadway along the Pearl City viaduct," said DOT Director Brennon Morioka. "This is the first major repair of this section of freeway since it was built in 1969."
