CORPORATION FOR PUBLIC BROADCASTING, EAST-WEST CENTER SENIOR POLICY SEMINAR DELEGATES WELCOMED TO HAWAI`I

August 6 - Governor Lingle welcomed members of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting Board of Directors and participants in the East-West Center Senior Policy Seminar to a reception at Washington Place, the historic home of Queen Lili`uokalani and Hawai`i's governors.

"The East-West Center does an outstanding job of shining a spotlight on this region," the Governor said.  "The Corporation for Public Broadcasting could be a great ally in showing the country we are entering the 'Century of the Pacific,'" she added.

The East-West Center seminar brought together senior policy makers, defense officials and academic experts from the United States and Asia Pacific for intensive discussions on the security challenges facing the Asia-Pacific region.

"In order to have good governance, you need a well-informed public," said Dr. Charles Morrison, president of the East-West Center.
