Governor Welcomes Student Ambassadors
For the fourth year in a row, Governor Lingle welcomed to the Hawai`i State Capitol junior ambassadors who will represent Hawai`i at the annual Asian-Pacific Children's Convention (APCC) in Fukuoka, Japan. This year's convention will bring together hundreds of students from 44 countries and regions throughout the Asian-Pacific Rim.
The Governor encouraged the student ambassadors to enjoy their time in Japan, while also keeping in mind the role they will play as representatives of their families, the Japan-America Society, and people of Hawai`i.
"How you act and how you treat others will shape how others view our State," the Governor said. "I am sure you will all make a great impression."
Governor Lingle is scheduled to meet with the junior ambassadors upon their return to hear their impressions about Japan and their home-stay exchange experience.
The APCC was founded by the Fukuoka Government in 1989 to promote international cooperation between children so that they will become adults with a strong social responsibility for the world.
Since its foundation, more than 7,000 junior ambassadors have visited Fukuoka.
