State Dedicates Pohoiki Boat Launch Ramp

As part of the Lingle-Aiona Administration's ongoing efforts to upgrade small boat harbors statewide, the state dedicated the new Pohoiki concrete boat launch ramp, accessible ramp and loading dock on the Big Island. The old Pohoiki boat ramp and loading dock had fallen into disrepair due to decades of neglect.

Big Island residents enjoy the Pohoiki Boat Launch Ramp after repairs were completed in May.

Construction on the boat ramp was completed in May.

"These improvements will ensure accessibility, safety and comfort for residents and visitors who use this boating facility," Laura H. Thielen, chairperson, Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) said.

Construction of these improvements began in late December 2008. The ramp was closed entirely between February 4 and March 5, 2009 for demolition and removal of the old concrete boat ramp, loading dock and access to the loading dock and construction of the new concrete boat ramp, loading dock, accessible ramp/walkway, and revetment.
