Administration Aids Small Businesses

As part of the Lingle-Aiona Administration's commitment to helping small businesses across the state address current economic challenges, the Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs' (DCCA) Maui Business Action Center (BAC) has returned to regular business hours from 7:45 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The BAC, part of DCCA's Business Registration Division (BREG), offers personal and customized assistance to help businesses get started. BAC helps businesses obtain and complete business registration, tax license, and employer registration forms. The BAC also provides information on permits and licenses for state, county, and federal government agencies, counseling and workshops offered by other business resource programs and other information useful to new entrepreneurs.

"Small businesses are the backbone of Hawai`i's economy and the small business community in Maui has been incredibly patient with our reduced hours," said Tung Chan, head of BREG. "All the paperwork involved with starting and running a business can be daunting but beginning Monday, we are back to full-time to assist our residents."

"Our customers are those who want to educate themselves about the process and prefer speaking to someone before filing an application to make sure they're doing things correctly," said BAC Manager Jayna Uyehara. "We then have an opportunity to inform them of other responsibilities they may have, such as annual reports, to keep in compliance with the law."

The Maui Business Action Center is located at 70 E. Ka`ahumanu Avenue, Unit B-9 (at the Maui Mall) in Kahului.
