"Outstanding Service Members of the Year" Honored

Reflecting her unwavering commitment to Hawai`i's men and women in uniform, and as part of Hawai`i Military Appreciation Month, Governor Lingle attended the Military Recognition Luncheon to recognize the outstanding service of members from all military branches.

"Outstanding Service Members of the Year" Honored

The "Outstanding Service Members of the Year" are recognized during the luncheon.

Awards were given to seven outstanding Service Members of the Year from the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, Hawai`i Air National Guard and U.S. Pacific Command. 

The award winners, chosen by their respective branches, are as follows:

U.S. Army:
Outstanding Noncommissioned Officer of the Year: Staff Sergeant Jacob Ferrara, 94th Army Air and Missile Defense Command, Fort Shafter.

U.S. Navy:
Outstanding Sailor of the Year: Operations Specialist 1st Class Terrish Bilbrey, U.S. Pacific Fleet, Naval Station Pearl Harbor.

U.S. Air Force:
Outstanding Noncommissioned Officer of the Year: Technical Sergeant Rodney Cathcart, HQ Pacific Air Forces, Hickam Air Force Base.

U.S. Marine Corps:
Outstanding Enlisted Person of the Year: Staff Sergeant Michael J. Ciccolone, Military Police Department, Marine Corps Base Hawai`i.

Governor Lingle thanks a member of the U.S. Air Force for her service during the Military Recognition Luncheon.

U.S. Coast Guard:
Outstanding Enlisted Person of the Year: Petty Officer 1st Class Bradley Roberson, 14th Coast Guard District, Hawai`i, U.S. Coast Guard Air Station, Barbers Point.

Hawai`i Air National Guard:
Outstanding Airman of the Year: Technical Sergeant Prescott Looney, Hawai`i Air National Guard, Hickam Air Force Base.

U.S. Pacific Command:
Outstanding Enlisted Person of the Year: Staff Sergeant May Scimone, USAF, Camp H.M. Smith.

Last month, Governor Lingle joined community and business leaders at a ceremony to kick-off Military Appreciation Month in Hawai`i, and expressed her appreciation for the contributions of Hawai`i's men and women in uniform in making the state, nation and world a better place.

Recalling the words of President John F. Kennedy, Governor Lingle said, "We must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them," adding that as Governor, she appreciates every opportunity to show her gratitude to servicemen and women on behalf of the people of Hawai`i, not just during Military Appreciation Month, but throughout the year.
