Developing International Partnerships Through Robotics
Waiakea High School student robotics participants are developing relationships with students from fifteen nations around the globe at the Ritsumekian Senior High School "Rits Super Science Fair 2009." With science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) at the core of this gathering, the fair provides Hawai`i students with an opportunity to share knowledge while building ties to other countries.
Students from fifteen nations around the world participate in the Rits Super Science Fair 2009 in Japan.
At the Rits Super Science Fair, Waiakea students conducted a BrushBot presentation and highlighted ways in which robotics provides a foundation in STEM skills while also giving students an opportunity to learn teamwork, communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
As a critical component of the Lingle-Aiona Administration's Hawai`i Innovation Initiative, each of Hawai`i's six student robotics programs (FIRST Robotics, FIRST LEGO League, Botball, Underwater Remote Operating Vehicle, VEX Robotics and Micro Robotics) provide students with the teamwork, critical thinking and problem-solving skills they need to compete in the 21st century workplace.
