The Governor highlighted the sense of pride and ownership employees take in Hawaiian Airlines as exemplified by Puanani Badiang, a ticket agent.

"This isn't a job, it's working with family," Badiang said. "A lot of us are willing to go above and beyond to malama for all those around us: passengers, mechanics, pilots, aircraft. That's what makes us unique."

"A positive attitude makes an impression on customers and is a part of what makes Hawaiian unique," the Governor added. "We appreciate it very much."

Governor Lingle also thanked Hawaiian Airlines president and CEO Mark Dunkerley for his support of the Hawai`i Airports Modernization Plan.

The $2.3 billion, 12-year plan was developed in 2006 in conjunction with the Airlines Committee of Hawai`i and other airport and visitor industry partners. It will create efficiencies and effectiveness in operations and increase the level of satisfaction for our residents and visitors.

It specializes in air transportation among the Hawaiian Islands and bringing visitors to Hawai`i from points in the Western U.S. and the South Pacific.
