February 10, 2006- Keeping Hawai`i On The Move

The growing traffic congestion around our state affects the quality of life for all our residents.
That is why I am seeking an investment of an additional $137 million for highway construction and other solutions to alleviate traffic gridlock.
These investments include:
$86 million in additional federal and state funds for the North-South Road and Kapolei Parkway on O`ahu.
$19 million to expand Kuhio Highway in Kapa`a on Kaua`i.
$1.2 million to realign Honoapi`ilani Highway on Maui.
And $1 million to create an afternoon contraflow zipperlane on the H-1 Freeway.
I am also proposing to enable $10 million from the State Highway Fund to be used by the counties to improve roads in their respective communities.
These and other transportation projects are part of our Administration’s ongoing efforts to improve driving conditions and to keep Hawai`i on the move.
Mahalo. This is Governor Linda Lingle.
