"It was an honor and privilege to deliver my sixth State of the State Address.  In it, I shared my vision for where our state should be headed in the 21st century.

It is a time to renew our sense of ‘ohana and for all of us to take personal responsibility for Hawai‘i’s future.

Encouraging the innovative capacity of Hawai‘i’s people will shift our economy away from one over-dependent on land development.  We must also achieve greater energy independence.

I believe we also have a once-in-a-generation chance to preserve a jewel of these islands by purchasing the 850-acre Turtle Bay property on O‘ahu’s North Shore.  This is fulfilling our commitment to future generations!

I ask everyone to join me in this effort as well as my other 2008 initiatives by visiting my website at www.hawaii.gov/gov."
