"Voting in any election, from the local level to the Presidential race, provides an important way to voice your opinions regarding elected leaders and policies that will affect your future.

In addition to choosing our new President on November 4, Hawai`i voters will have the responsibility to understand the various referendums on the ballot as well as select two members of our Congressional delegation, every state representative, 12 seats in the State Senate, the mayors and council members of the City and County of Honolulu, Hawai`i and Kaua`i counties, the Maui County Council and seven members of the state Board of Education, as well as four Office of Hawaiian Affairs trustees.

The last day to register to vote in the 2008 primary election is August 21st.

I urge you to visit the State Office of Elections website at www.hawaii.gov/elections, to learn more about how you can make your voice heard."
