June 19, 2008 - Public Service: State Boards and Commissions
Click here to listen to this address.
"The work of your state government reaches far beyond elected officials and state employees. More than 1,300 community leaders statewide serve on over 160 state boards and commissions that advise my Administration on a broad variety of issues.
Lt. Governor Aiona and I have the honor of swearing-in residents throughout the state who have been appointed to these boards and commissions. In areas as diverse as the judicial selection commission, board of nursing and the 50th anniversary of statehood commission, these dedicated community volunteers are committed to serving the people of Hawai`i.
Volunteering as a board or commission member is one of the best ways for a concerned citizen to participate in shaping the future of our state.
I encourage all Hawai`i residents who would like to make a difference through public service to learn more and apply by visiting my website at www.hawaii.gov/gov."
