"As Hawai`i's economy continues to grow at a moderated pace, we are taking action to make long-term investments in our state's infrastructure.
I was on Maui recently for the opening of the new Mokulele Highway, which will improve traffic, and the quality of life for Maui residents. Highway improvements are just one example of what we are accomplishing statewide.
I'm pleased the legislature joined with us in a timely opportunity to invest $710 million in a six-year, statewide harbors modernization plan. With 98 percent of our state's cargo arriving through our harbors, their maintenance and improvement is critical.
We're also moving forward on a $2.3 billion airports modernization plan, as well as upgrades to schools, University of Hawai`i campuses, state parks and small boat harbors.
By investing in our infrastructure we will continue to meet the needs of residents, and build a stronger future for Hawai`i."
