April 30, 2009 - Governor's Weekly Radio Address - H1N1 Influenza Update

Aloha.
While there have been no reported cases of swine flu in Hawai`i, my Administration is taking precautionary measures to protect residents and visitors. I want the people of Hawai`i to know that this is a time to be alert and vigilant but not to be alarmed.
We have surveillance procedures in place to identify arriving passengers who may be sick and have invested in stockpiling anti-viral medications. We are providing up-to-date information to the public, and providing translations for our non-English speaking residents and visitors.
The Department of Health continues to recommend common sense steps to protect yourself and your children from contracting influenza, including: washing your hands frequently, covering sneezes and coughs and avoiding others with respiratory illnesses.
A toll-free Swine Flu Information Line is now available at (866) 767-5044. I urge you to learn more about how you can prepare by visiting my website, www.hawaii.gov/gov.
Mahalo. This is Governor Linda Lingle.
