"I recently returned from Washington, D.C. where Governor Lingle and I, both together and separately, met with President Obama's Administration, the nation's governors and Senators Inouye and Akaka. In the coming weeks, you will be hearing more about the outcomes of these important meetings.

We met with the members of the President's cabinet, including the secretaries of energy, housing, veteran's affairs and homeland security, as well as the special assistant to the President for clean energy.

Governor Lingle and I discussed with national leaders issues that are critical to Hawai`i's future, as well as addressed questions concerning the federal stimulus package and how it affects the people of Hawai`i. Our focus on maximizing federal dollars and partnerships is an important part of our state's five-point economic action plan.

I encourage you to learn more about the federal partnerships we are developing by visiting www.hawaii.gov/gov."
