Aloha,

Our Administration is working hard to stimulate the local economy. State departments are pushing federal stimulus funds into our communities, enabling businesses to retain employees and create new jobs.

The Department of Transportation is a key leader in this effort. The DOT has broken ground on four major highway projects including the H-1 Seismic Retrofit on O`ahu, the Kuhio Highway and Maalo Road Resurfacing Projects on Kaua`i, and major bridge maintenance projects along Hawai`i Belt Road on the Big Island. Next week, DOT will break ground on the South Punalu`u Bridge on Kamehameha Highway. By the end of the month, nine out of the original ten federally funded DOT projects will be in construction, totaling $30 million.

With the stimulus funds, residents are able to keep their jobs, businesses receive an economic boost and ensure Hawai`i is on its way toward economic recovery.

Mahalo. This is Governor Linda Lingle.
