This week I had the privilege of delivering my seventh State of the State address to the people of Hawai`i.
In my remarks, I spoke about how state legislators and I share a clear understanding of the challenges we face in the near term. But, we are still enthusiastic about planning for our future together and optimistic about Hawai`i in the 21st century. I am an optimist by nature and believe that there is opportunity in every difficulty.
By working together, we will make the decisions necessary to address our current fiscal crisis and achieve our preferred future. That future includes energy independence, increased food self-sufficiency, a 21st-century infrastructure, and a well-cared for environment.
We have submitted a robust legislative package to achieve this future. I encourage you to take an active role with your state government this session, because together we will ensure a brighter future for Hawai`i.
