March 26, 2009 - Governor's Weekly Radio Address - Budget Update

Aloha,
This week, I announced our revised, comprehensive budget plan to address the State's current fiscal challenges.
My Administration's plan will allow the state to continue delivering quality public services while moving forward on our priorities, including economic transformation, energy security, STEM education, Recreational Renaissance, affordable housing and infrastructure modernization.
Without raising taxes, laying off employees or taking money from the counties, our financial plan is timely, practical and responsible. By utilizing additional federal stimulus funds and reducing labor costs, it addresses the immediate needs of Hawai`i residents as well as plans for the long-term goals of our state. We have provided a clear roadmap to achieve a brighter future.
This is not a time when we can operate in a "business as usual" fashion. Recognizing the challenges that face Hawai`i's families and businesses, the state is working to reduce any additional burdens.
Mahalo. This is Governor Linda Lingle.
