GOVERNOR LINGLE APPOINTS CORINNE CHUN FUJIMOTO AS NEW WASHINGTON PLACE CURATOR

HONOLULU – Governor Linda Lingle has appointed Corinne Chun Fujimoto as the new curator for Washington Place.  Chun Fujimoto replaces Jim Bartels who passed away in April.  The appointment is effective today. 

Chun Fujimoto has more than 25 years of experience in Hawai`i historic preservation, having served as the curator of `Iolani Palace from 1996 to 2001, assistant curator from 1981 to 1996, as well as curatorial assistant and collections cataloguer.  She administered various programs for `Iolani Palace including historical research, historic restoration, and collections acquisition, care and conservation. Chun Fujimoto also served as an advisor for `Iolani Palace’s landscaping, special events, and palace shop committees.

“Corinne’s dedication and commitment to preserving Hawai`i’s rich cultural treasures is inspiring,” said Governor Lingle.  “We are fortunate to have Corinne’s expertise to ensure the history and traditions of Washington Place are shared with the people of Hawai`i and preserved for future generations.”

“I am honored to be entrusted with the responsibility of administering the ongoing restoration and conservation projects of this important Hawai`i landmark,” said Chun Fujimoto.  “Washington Place and the story of its people possess enormous potential.  Within its rich history lies a wealth to be shared and celebrated with our residents and visitors.”

Chun Fujimoto attended Mills College and graduated from the University of Hawai`i with a degree in art history.  She is currently president of the Tibetan Buddhist Meditation Center.
