GOVERNOR LINGLE APPOINTS STANLEY SHIRAKI AS ACTING DEPUTY DIRECTOR OF FINANCE

HONOLULU—Governor Linda Lingle has appointed Stanley T. Shiraki as acting deputy director of the state Department of Budget and Finance.

Shiraki, who has served as director of finance since June 2002, has more than 30 years of experience in state and city government finance and budgeting.

"I am very pleased that Stan has agreed to stay on to help our efforts to strengthen the state's fiscal condition," said Georgina Kawamura, state budget director nominee. "Stan brings a wealth of knowledge about the Department of Budget and Finance as well as all other operating departments of the state. His continued contributions will be invaluable."

Shiraki first joined the department in 1970 as a budget analyst and became chief of the Program Evaluation Branch in the Budget, Program Planning and Management Division.

In 1981, Shiraki joined the City and County of Honolulu's Department of the Budget and served for three years as chief budget officer. He returned to the state Department of Budget and Finance in 1985 to work as program evaluation analyst, and later served as acting administrator for the Financial Administration Division, administrative services officer of the Administrative and Research Office, and acting deputy director.

"I have served the state through three previous administrations, and now look forward to working with Governor Lingle's team to bring continuity and a historical perspective to managing the state's finances, while at the same time adopting new ways of approaching our fiscal responsibilities going forward," said Shiraki.

Shiraki is a graduate of the University of Hawai`i and St. Louis High School.
