GOVERNOR LINGLE APPOINTS TWO INTERIM HAWAI`I PAROLING AUTHORITY BOARD MEMBERS

HONOLULU – Governor Linda Lingle has appointed two interim board members to serve on the Hawai`i Paroling Authority. Kenneth Lum, a former restaurateur, and Joe Gomes, a former state representative, will begin serving on an interim basis until permanent members are appointed by the Governor. Two other individuals had been named to temporarily fill the vacancies created by recent resignations of two board members, but their terms expired on May 9 and June 2, respectfully.
Lum is the former owner of various Hawai`i restaurants, including Spaghetti! Spaghetti! and Sandwedge Restaurant at the Hawaii Kai Golf Course. He also was general partner of the Princess Coffee Shop in the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center. He previously served as vice president of food and beverages for Halekulani Hotel; purchasing and sales manager for Theo H. Davies Corp. Hotel and Restaurant Division; and director of produce for Foodland Market Chain.
Gomes, a private practice attorney, represented the 51st House District (Waimanalo, Keolu Hills and Lanikai) from 2000-2002. Previously, he was an associate with the law firms of Gallagher & Associates and Alston Hunt Floyd & Ing. Gomes also served as a judicial clerk for Associate Judge Warren R. King of the District of Columbia Court of Appeals in Washington, D.C.; a law intern for the U.S. Department of Justice, Immigration and Naturalization Service; and a legal intern for the U.S. Attorney’s Office, District of Columbia, Public Corruption Unit.
