GOVERNOR LINGLE RELEASES $1,455,500 FOR NEW AIR-CONDITIONING SYSTEM AT KIHEI ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
For Immediate Release: January 29, 2004
HONOLULU – Governor Linda Lingle announced today at the Maui Chamber of Commerce Governor’s Luncheon that she has released $1,455,500 to install a new air-conditioning system in various buildings at Kihei Elementary School.
The air-conditioning improvements will help alleviate the noise and heat problems in many of the school’s classrooms and create an environment that is more conducive to learning. New systems will be installed in the permanent classroom buildings (A-F), as well as in 12 portable classrooms. The project will be implemented in phases, with buildings A and C receiving the highest priority, as determined by the Kihei Elementary School administration.
"This has been an ongoing problem for Kihei Elementary, so we’re very pleased to be able to provide the funds needed to ensure our students and teachers have a comfortable environment where they can focus on learning," said Governor Lingle.
As part of its ongoing effort to address the backlog in school repairs, the Lingle Administration
is proposing $90 million in its supplemental budget for school repair and maintenance, as well as $20 million for new school construction.####
