GOVERNOR LINGLE'S REQUEST TO SPEAK AT EDUCATION SUMMIT ACCEPTED BY DOE

For Immediate Release:  March 4, 2004

HONOLULU – Governor Linda Lingle will address educators, parents, students, legislators, and other community members at the statewide Education Summit on March 27, 2004.  The Governor’s office made a written request to Education Superintendent Pat Hamamoto on Tuesday, asking for the opportunity to deliver remarks about education reform.  This afternoon, Superintendent Hamamoto confirmed by phone that the Governor could speak at the summit.

“My Administration has worked hard over the past 15 months to raise the level of awareness in the community of the need for education reform, so I feel it’s important for me to have a part in the Education Summit,” said Governor Lingle.  “I appreciate Superintendent Hamamoto’s willingness to accommodate my request to share my thoughts about the future of our education system at the Education Summit.”
